Oklahoma Teen Birth Rates on the Rise

Once again, the teen birth rate in Oklahoma is on the rise. According to the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy, the number of births to Oklahoma teens increased from 7,320 teen births in 2006 to 7,616 teen births in 2007 to females under the age of 20.

Comprehensive sexuality education is desperately need in our schools. Abstinence only education is not enough. We need to give our adolescents the information to make responsible choices about their sexual health including information about contraception and prevention.

What are your thoughts?
